Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have made themselves available to play T20I cricket for India ahead of the upcoming 3-match series against Afghanistan, and the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
In a report by The Indian Express, Kohli and Rohit have alerted their decisions to the selectors. The two experienced campaigners have not featured in any T20I game since India's defeat in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England.

Notably, India are scheduled to play just three more T20I games before travelling for the T20 World Cup 2024. 35-year-old Kohli and 36-year-old Rohit are very likely to give a shot at featuring in the ICC marquee event. A lot will also depend on their performance in the IPL 2024.
Further, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested for the Afghanistan T20Is. The two players recently featured in the 2-Test series against South Africa, and the selectors want them fully fit for the 5-Test series against England from January 25.
Also, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will be unavailable for selection due to their respective injuries. Hardik was leading the Indian T20I side after the T20 World Cup 2022. After he got injured during the World Cup 2023, Suryakumar led the side against Australia and South Africa.
However, the star middle-order also got injured in South Africa. Selectors will have to choose a new captain in their absence and there is a strong possibility that Rohit Sharma will take back his position.
