Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma expecting second child, reveals AB de Villiers

By Puneet Sharma

Senior India batter Virat Kohli took a break from national duties for the first couple of Tests against England on personal grounds. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) permitted the former skipper and announced Rajat Patidar as his replacement for the first two matches.

While Kohli's decision prompted speculation, including unfounded rumours about his mother's health, his brother, Vikas, clarified that their mother was in good health, urging respect for the family's privacy.

Now former South Africa captain, AB de Villiers, revealed the reason why Kohli opted out of the first two games. De Villiers, Kohli's former RCB teammate, revealed the legendary cricketer and his actor wife, Anushka Sharma, are expecting their second child.

On his YouTube show, the legendary South Africa cricketer said, "All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well."

Kohli chose to spend time with his family as the Indian cricket star and his wife, because of the anticipated arrival of their second child. Commending Kohli's decision to prioritise family, De Villiers praised him for stepping away from the first two Tests of the ongoing 5-match series against England.

He mentioned that he reached out to Kohli to inquire about his well-being after his withdrawal from the initial matches of the series and reassured fans that Kohli was doing well and focusing on family matters. De Villiers added further, "Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you (fans) a little bit of love."

"So I wrote to him 'Been wanting to check in with you (sic) for a while now biscuits. How are you?'. He said 'Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well.'.

"Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it's family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people's priority is family. You can't judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision," he added.

De Villiers emphasised the importance of family and supported Kohli's choice, stating that one's authenticity and commitment to loved ones should not be questioned. He shared details of his conversation with Kohli, confirming the impending arrival of their second child and expressing solidarity with Kohli's decision to prioritise family over professional commitments.

De Villiers highlighted Kohli's previous instance of prioritizing family in 2021 when he returned home during a Test series for the birth of their first child, Vamika. De Villiers concluded by reaffirming support for Kohli's decision and expressing anticipation for his return to cricket when the time is right. As per reports, Kohli is abroad with his family and the couple might welcome their second child outside India.
