On the 5th and final day of the 3rd Test today (September 1), India defeated Sri Lanka by 117 runs to register a 2-1 series win, after 22 years. A couple of hours later, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Kohli had become the number one batsman in T20Is, overtaking Australia's Aaron Finch.

"India's Virat Kohli has become the number-one ranked batsman in the latest ICC Twenty20 International (T20I) Player Rankings, which were released on Tuesday," a media release from ICC said.

"Kohli has taken over from Australia's Aaron Finch, who missed Monday's T20I against England, which the home side won by five runs. As a result, Finch dropped 17 points, which, in turn, means he now trails the India Test captain by seven points," it added.
