Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record in Australia

Melbourne, Dec 30: India's Virat Kohli has set a new mark in Australia, surpassing the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, during the third Test here today.

Kohli, who scored 54 today on the 5th day of the third Test, broke Tendulkar's record for most runs by a visiting number 4 batsman in a series in Australia.

Virat Kohli continues to break records

The right-hander now has 499 runs (3 tons, 1 fifty) in 6 innings at 83.16, going past Tendulkar's mark of 480 scored in 7 innings in 2007-08 series.

The 26-year-old Kohli has been in great form in the series, starting with twin centuries in the opening Test in Adelaide. After a quiet match in Brisbane he was back again with a ton in the first innings and today added another 50 plus score. He has one more Test (Sydney, from January 6) in the series to go past 500 and beyond.

Captaining India for the first time in a Test, Kohli made scored 115 and 141 in the opening match in Adelaide. In Brisbane he failed with low scores of 19 and 1. Here at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), he hit a career-best 169 in the first innings.

With this new record, not only has Kohli gone past Tendulkar but some of the other big names like GR Viswanath, Brian Lara and Ken Barrington.
