Virat Kohli, the anchor of India's batting lineup, rose two spots on Wednesday to take over seventh place among batters in the ICC rankings after smashing an amazing 85 in his team's six-wicket victory over Australia during the World Cup in Chennai.
When Kohli began to bat, India was in a critical 2 for 2 situation, which quickly turned into 5 for 3. But, Kohli rallied his team with a tough performance that halted Australia's advance while adding a game-winning 165 for the fourth wicket with KL Rahul.

In contrast to Aiden Markram of South Africa, who became the tournament's fastest century-maker by moving up 11 spots, Rahul, who made 97 not out against Australia, rose 15 spots to take over the 19th position.
On Wednesday, the ICC released a statement that ignored Kohli's unbroken 55 against Afghanistan, which helped India win for the second time in a row with 8 wickets remaining and 15 overs remaining.
"Ten centuries across the opening eight matches at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 have shaken up the top end of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings," the ICC said on its website.
Mohammed Siraj, another Indian, dropped to second place after briefly holding the top spot with Josh Hazlewood of Australia. After the match against Australia, Siraj dropped five points.
Although his three-wicket haul in Chennai, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja didn't make it into the top-40 list of bowlers, but India's Kuldeep Yadav moved up three spots to finish eighth.
Quinton de Kock moved up one spot to achieve sixth place with to his 84-ball 100 against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match at New Delhi.
Dawid Malan of England, who scored a magnificent 140 against Bangladesh at Dharamsala, rose up to seven spots in the rankings to take the eighth slot, while Imam Ul Haq of Pakistan fell three spots to take the ninth spot.
Trent Boult of New Zealand rose two spots to take third place in the ICC rankings, and Matt Henry advanced four spaces to take fifth place inside the top 10.
