IND vs NZ: Virat Kohli 'the myth, the legend, and the man', cricket fraternity doffs hat to 'chase master'

By MyKhel Staff

Virat Kohli's majestic run at the ICC World Cup 2023 continued as the Indian batting superstar scored a gritty 95 against New Zealand to win India's fifth match on the trot in Dharamshala on Sunday. The scintillating effort by the 'the myth, the legend, and the man' received rave reviews on X, formerly Twitter.

Virat Kohli departed just five runs short of a back-to-back century but by the time the former India captain fell, the victory was a mere formality for India as he crucially added 78 runs for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (39*). We take a look at some of the tweets.

Speaking after the match, India captain Rohit Sharma said he was hardly surprised at the effort by Virat Kohli saying, "Nothing much to say. He (Kohli) has done this for us so many years. He backed himself to do the job. Kohli and Jadeja pulled us back when we lost a few wickets in the middle."

Virat Kohli's innings came after Mohammed Shami took a fifer (5/54) to limit New Zealand to 273 all out in 50 overs. Shami's spell, three of the wickets came in the slog overs, came after Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130) put New Zealand on the top with a partnership of 159 runs for the third wicket.

Virat Kohli's knock came at a time when India lost both their openers Rohit Sharma (46) and Shubman Gill (26) provided a quick start to India on a surface that was expected to turn tricky as the game progressed.

Kohli held the Indian chase together by having crucial stands with the likes of Shreyas Iyer (33), KL Rahul (27), and Jadeja to ensure the fall of wickets at intervals didn't allow New Zealand to get back in the game. India eventually chased down the target with 12 balls to spare. India now are the sole team to remain unbeaten in the ICC World Cup 2023.
