The Indian government has imposed a 28 per cent tax on the incomes from all online fantasy gaming platforms, which has been a reason for anger among tech and gaming companies.
After a gradual rise in online gaming and fantasy apps, which include cricket and many card-based games, the Indian government has decided to levy the tax.

Many online gaming platforms have made fortunes through cricket and other sports. And after this sudden lash from the government, many online gaming platform owners have shown their disgruntlement by the latest decision of the Indian government.
BharatPe and Shark Tank-famed Ashneer Grover are the latest to that as he lashed out at the GST council in a series of tweets, where he pointed out inconsistencies in the policies.
Grover accused the government of not curbing the online gaming rules on the Indian cricket team and former players. He pointed out MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly - three former Indian captains all promoting online fantasy gaming which the political administrators failed to take any step against.
He also asked why the Indian cricket team was allowed to appoint Dream11 as the primary sponsor.
"Why judgement on online gaming now? Everyone from Virat Kohli to MS Dhoni to Sourav Ganguly has endorsed online gaming. Why was India public/Govt/BCCI not outraged by all cricketers endorsing? Why was BCCI allowed to take Dream 11 as the title sponsor? Sab Doglapan hai - Tech founders are dispensable - that's the only truth," Grover said.
He also said that in future, the tech heads will mostly be shifted to Singapore and Dubai and India's policies on online gaming will hamper a potential business hub in the country.
Virat Kohli has been a brand ambassador and funded MPL, whereas MS Dhoni has promoted Winzo and PokerStars. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has promoted another fantasy platform My11Circle.
