Tennis star Novak Djokovic has opened up on his camaraderie with India's cricket legend Virat Kohli.

Djokovic is gearing up for the Australian Open as he takes court in the coming days. The 24-time Grand Slams Champion will be hoping to start 2024 on a positive note.

And ahead of that, Djokovic admitted he and Kohli have a connection for years. The pair haven't met each other, but the Serbian says they talk over social media and through the social media chats, they have formed a strong bond.

"Virat Kohli and I have been texting a little bit for a few years, and we never got the chance to meet in person. But it was really a privilege and honour to listen to him speak nicely about me, and I obviously admire his career and achievements and everything he has done," Djokovic said to Sony Sports.

The Serbian currently sits at the top of the Grand Slam title with 24 championships to his name. He won 3 Grand Slams in 2023 (Australian Open, French Open and US Open), and was the beaten finalist in the Wimbledon.

Djokovic admitted his wish to come to India in near future. The player revealed he has only visited India once which was more than a decade ago.

"I have been to India only once so far in my life. It was, I think, 10 or 11 years ago. I came to play an exhibition event in New Delhi for two days. It was a very short stay. So, I really hope that I will be able to come back in the near future because I have a great desire, great wish to explore your beautiful country that has so much history, so much culture to offer to the world and spirituality as well. It's amazing," shared Djokovic.

Virat Kohli and his friendships

Kohli is known for his friendship with a lot of sports stars, and Djokovic is the latest addition - at least the latest one to come in public. The Indian batter has a friendship with football star Cristiano Ronaldo, while the Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri is also very close with Kohli.
