There were doubts already on the open-top bus parade, which ended up not happening due to the safety reasons, but a chaos at the Chinnaswamy cost several lives. MyKhel understands via OneIndia that at least 11 people have died while more than 40 are injured in the mishap that took place in the afternoon outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Following the tragedy, RCB released a statement expressing their sorrow and confirmed the curbing of their felicitation programme upon learning about the tragedy.

"We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us. RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration," a statement from RCB read.

Karnataka government has been massively criticized for their lack of arrangements to tackle the throng of people, who came in thousands to get a glimpse and engross into the celebrations and festivities. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah rushed to the hospital and later announced compensation for the deceased.

The Karnataka government announced an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased, the majority of whom were young men and women. Additionally, the 47 individuals who sustained injuries will receive comprehensive support, including medical treatment, food, and transportation. A magistrate inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident.

Virat Kohli 'Absolutely Gutted'

Virat Kohli also posted on his Instagram and took the statement of the RCB team. The India stalwart wrote, 'at a loss for words, absolutely gutted'.

Kohli, who was the focal point of the celebrations in Bengaluru, is now set to take an extended break before the distant ODI assignments with the Indian team.
