Virat Kohli Receives 'Surrender To The Game' Advise From Ex India Coach Ahead Of Melbourne Test

Sanjay Bangar, ex India batting coach feels that the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) presents an ideal chance for Virat Kohli to step up and reaffirm his position as the backbone of India's batting order.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tied at 1-1, this match holds immense importance for India's ambitions of securing the series and strengthening their prospects of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Kohli's form in the ongoing series has been inconsistent. While his century in Perth was instrumental in India's win, his contributions in the other games have been below par. Having scored only 126 runs across six innings at an average of 30, Kohli has struggled to deliver consistently. Aside from his hundred in Perth, he has managed just 26 runs in the remaining five innings.

"Sometimes you need to keep your status as a batter in control a little. When you surrender slightly to the game, spend a little time, ease out in the middle for some time, wait for the bowler to come to you, and do not go yourself towards the bowler, that's the sign of a big player," Bangar told Star Sports.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) provides Kohli with a platform that has favored him in the past. Having amassed 316 runs at an impressive average of 52.66 at this venue, Kohli holds cherished memories here, including a remarkable 169-run innings during the Boxing Day Test in 2014.

Melbourne's conditions, known for their bounce and carry, suit Kohli's batting style perfectly, presenting an excellent opportunity for him to regain his touch.

Bangar further emphasized that Kohli should focus on playing deliveries closer to his front pad, a technique that could help him rediscover his rhythm and timing.

"Virat's role in this high-stakes encounter could be the difference-maker. He has done it before at the MCG, and there is no reason why he can't do it again," further added.
