Virat Kohli set to miss Ranji Trophy matches for Delhi with Fresh Injury

By MyKhel Staff

Virat Kohli is set to miss Delhi' upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, which starts from January 23.

The Indian batting superstar is reportedly dealing with a neck sprain, which could sideline him for Delhi's crucial Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. The match, part of the sixth Elite Group D fixtures, is scheduled to take place in Rajkot and is a pivotal one for Delhi.

According to a report by The Times of India, Kohli had to take an injection to manage the pain caused by the injury.

A source quoted by the publication revealed, "Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left, and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update."

Although Kohli is named in the Delhi squad, there is a 'subject to availability' tag inserted against his name. Kohli may well miss out, but another India star Rishabh Pant is set to play in the upcoming Ranji matches. The southpaw had a moderate outing in Australia and the onus will be to get back at his optimum best ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Kohli's absence could be a significant blow for Delhi, who are striving to improve their position in the Elite Group D standings. His potential unavailability also raises concerns about his readiness for upcoming national commitments, particularly the Champions Trophy.

The Champions Trophy is a marquee event for the Indian team, and Kohli's inclusion would be pivotal to their chances. However, the injury and its management could be a deciding factor in his selection. Team management and selectors will likely monitor his recovery closely before making a final call, but Kohli is likely to get completely fit before the commencement of the ICC competition.
