Virat Kohli Shuts Down Test Comeback Rumors With a Blunt Reply

Ever since modern-day legend Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the longest format of the game just ahead of the England series in 2025, there is always a hope that he will return.

However, the 37-year-old star batter has now officially shut down any lingering speculation regarding a possible U-turn on his Test cricket retirement.

Virat Kohli Shuts Down Test Comeback Rumors With a Blunt Reply

During a promotional event in New Delhi on Sunday, the inevitable question was posed to the former Indian captain, asking whether he would consider making a comeback to the Test arena.

Kohli did not mince his words, delivering a straightforward and blunt response that leaves no room for misinterpretation.

"I am done with it. Thank you," Virat said at the event, making it absolutely clear that his chapter in red-ball cricket is permanently closed.

Virat Kohli's Focus Shifts to White-Ball Cricket

While his Test career is definitively in the rearview mirror, Kohli remains a vital piece of India's white-ball puzzle. On the same day as his blunt declaration, he was named in India's 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England next month.

However, his participation in the highly anticipated white-ball assignment comes with a significant warning: it is strictly subject to fitness clearance.

Injury Woes and the Road to Recovery

Kohli's recent absence from the international stage has been dictated by physical setbacks. He suffered a frustrating hamstring injury during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's title-defending run in the Indian Premier League. The severity of the injury notably ruled him out of India's recent three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

To ensure a safe and effective return to the pitch, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been closely monitoring his rehabilitation. Sports science staff from the Centre of Excellence (CoE) previously visited Kohli in England to assess his recovery progress.

Taking the final step toward his international return, Kohli will leave his promotional duties in Delhi and report to the CoE in Bengaluru on Monday to undergo a definitive fitness test. If cleared, the cricketing world can eagerly anticipate seeing the modern master back in action during the England ODIs.
