Virat Kohli Vs Travis Head Incident: Irfan Pathan Shares Inside Details Of SRH Vs RCB Match Tension

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 55 runs in Hyderabad, yet still missed a top-two finish in the IPL 2026 standings.

On JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live’, JioStar expert Irfan Pathan discussed Ishan Kishan’s progress, Heinrich Klaasen’s approach against Josh Hazlewood, and the on-field Virat Kohli-Travis Head incident.

Virat Kohli-Travis Head Incident Irfan Pathan Explains

Irfan Pathan explained that the Kohli-Head exchange reflected typical intensity during high-pressure league games. Pathan also highlighted how Sunrisers Hyderabad relied on calculated batting plans, with Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen shaping the innings in different phases while Royal Challengers Bengaluru struggled to respond.

Kohli-Head incident and aggressive style in IPL 2026

Addressing the Kohli-Head incident, Irfan Pathan stated that Virat Kohli’s behaviour suited an assertive cricket culture often linked with Australian teams. Pathan felt such animated conversations were expected when both sides chased vital positions on the IPL 2026 points table, especially late in the league stage.

"Virat Kohli has always enjoyed playing cricket with that aggressive Australian-style intensity, a bit of banter, competitiveness, and emotion on the field. During that moment, he was asking Travis Head to come on and bowl a few deliveries instead of remaining off the field as an impact substitute. These kinds of exchanges are quite natural in high-pressure games, especially when both teams are competing for crucial positions on the points table. In the end, it was simply part of the intensity and competitive spirit that comes with top-level cricket."

Irfan Pathan on Kohli-Head incident and Ishan Kishan’s new role

Shifting focus to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting, Irfan Pathan emphasised Ishan Kishan’s reliability at number three throughout the season. Pathan believed Kishan handled varied match conditions well, adapted to different pitches, and offered stability in the middle order, which helped Sunrisers Hyderabad construct competitive totals regularly.

"Ishan Kishan has shown tremendous improvement this season, especially in the way he has taken responsibility in different match situations and on different surfaces. Batting at No. 3, he's playing a very important role for Sunrisers Hyderabad and looks far more complete as a batter now. One of the biggest improvements in his game has been his ability against spin, particularly through the off-side, because once he combines that with his natural strength on the leg side, he becomes extremely difficult to contain and looked in complete control throughout the innings."

Pathan noted that this Sunrisers Hyderabad victory came despite missing a top-two place, underlining how fine margins shaped the IPL 2026 standings. The result left both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru keeping close watch on other fixtures, even as analysts examined tactical choices from this match in Hyderabad.

Irfan Pathan on Kohli-Head incident and Klaasen vs Hazlewood battle

Irfan Pathan then examined Heinrich Klaasen’s attacking spell against Josh Hazlewood. Pathan felt Klaasen quickly sensed Hazlewood’s dip in rhythm, targeted specific overs, and forced the bowler further under pressure. That period, according to Pathan, shifted momentum firmly towards Sunrisers Hyderabad.

"What stood out in Heinrich Klaasen's innings was his awareness of the situation and his ability to identify that a bowler like Josh Hazlewood was under pressure. Hazlewood hasn't quite been at his best in the last few games, and Klaasen recognised that immediately and decided to attack him. Some of the deliveries were below Hazlewood's usual standards, full tosses and half-volleys, but you still need a batter in top form to capitalise the way Klaasen did. To sense that pressure on the bowler and then execute so confidently shows exactly why Heinrich Klaasen is in outstanding form at the moment."

With playoff qualification scenarios still active, Lucknow Super Giants will meet Punjab Kings at 7:30 PM in the IPL 2026 race to the Playoffs, with coverage on JioHotstar and Star Sports Network. That clash remained important for teams monitoring how the lower half of the standings might shift.
