Virender Sehwag likely to leave Delhi team; Wasim Jaffer moves to Vidarbha

By PTI

New Delhi, June 23: Virender Sehwag is "seriously considering" leaving the Delhi team for other state associations, which would open up opportunities for junior cricketers in his native domestic side.

'ESPNcricinfo' has reported that the former India opener is weighing offers from other state associations for the upcoming season.

Virender Sehwag might play for a new team this season

Sehwag is the most successful batsman from Delhi at the India level, scoring 17,000 plus runs across three formats.

He has represented the Indian team in 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20s. The 36-year-old had a productive Ranji Trophy last season, making 568 runs in eight games at an average of 51.63 and finishing only a run behind leading scorer Gautam Gambhir.

He was less impressive in the 50-over tournament though, managing 131 runs in six matches at 21.83.

Sehwag has been associated with Delhi ever since he made his first-class debut in 1997-98 season.

Meanwhile, Mumbai veteran Wasim Jaffer is set to move base to Vidarbha.
