Wanindu Hasaranga retires from Test cricket at 26

Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has taken the decision to retire from Test cricket at an early age of 26. An official release from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has stated that Hasaranga has taken to the decision to retire from Test cricket to prolong his career as a limited-overs specialist.

“We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward,” said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The Galle-born cricketer played four Test matches for Sri Lanka, the last one being against Bangladesh in Pallekele back in April 2021. He made his debut in 2022 against South Africa in Centurion. He finishes his Test career with just four wickets at an average of 100.75.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star has represented Sri Lanka in 48 ODIs and 58 T20Is, taking 67 and 91 wickets respectively.

Hasaranga is currently playing in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 and is part of the and is leading the B-Love Kandy side which has Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Haris in the lineup.

The leg-spinner recently represented Washington Freedom in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC). He also plays in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
