Ahmedabad Plane Crash: The final of the T20 Mumbai League 2025 was marked by a solemn tribute as players, officials, and spectators united to honour the victims of the devastating plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad earlier on Thursday.
Before the high-stakes clash between SoBo Mumbai Falcons and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals at Wankhede Stadium, a minute of silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. Players from both teams, along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), stood in silence with black armbands as a sign of respect and mourning.

A heartfelt message displayed on the stadium's big screen read: "Our prayers are with the victims of today's crash. Remembering them in silence and solidarity."
Earlier that morning, an Air India flight carrying 242 passengers, en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed just minutes after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft went down in a densely populated residential area, resulting in a catastrophic fire and significant structural damage.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but the intensity of the blaze and the extent of the wreckage made rescue operations extremely difficult. Eyewitness videos shared on social media showed towering plumes of black smoke rising from the crash site.
Initial reports confirm that 204 bodies have been recovered, with only one survivor pulled from the debris. Among those on board were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, one Canadian, and 12 crew members. It is also confirmed now that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was also among the passengers lost his life due to the accident.
Air Traffic Control revealed that the pilot had issued a distress call shortly after takeoff, possibly citing technical difficulties. Contact with the aircraft was lost soon after, leading to the fatal crash.
In a moment that transcended sport, the T20 Mumbai League final offered a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the unifying power of collective grief and support.
