Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Pitch Report & Weather Forecast for SA vs BAN ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Match 23

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will stage it's second match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (October 24) when one of the title contenders South Africa take on Bangladesh in match 23 of the tournament.

South Africa will look to avoid any further lapse and carry on their winning momentum following the thumping win in their most recent match, while Bangladesh will be eager to bounce back and stop the three-match losing run.

South Africa, who were led by Aiden Markram in Temba Bavuma's absence, rode on Heinrich Klaassen hundred and three fifty plus scores to set a target of 399 before bowling out England for 170 to register a 229-run win on a belter in Mumbai, where there was no weather interruption.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, suffered a 7-wicket loss against India on another batting friendly wicket at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh could only post 256 in their allotted 50 overs in Pune, where rain or any other weather condition did not interrupt play.

While weather has not affected Bangladesh's matches so far, South Africa's clash against Netherlands was curtailed after rain delayed start in Dharamsala. Also, the afternoon heat in Mumbai is expected to remain even on Tuesday (October 24).

The venue in Mumbai has produced some high-scoring games in limited overs format. So, how will the weather and pitch conditions be for SA vs BAN clash in Mumbai? Will rain have an impact? Will dew be a factor in the match?

With some parts of India witnessing showers due to the retreating monsoon, here is a look at the Mumbai weather forecast and the Wankhede Stadium pitch report for SA vs BAN 23rd ICC World Cup match:

Mumbai Weather Forecast on October 24

There is no threat of rain in Mumbai on Tuesday (October 24) or in the lead up to match. It is expected to be a very warm day with a blend of sunshine and clouds. The temperature is expected to touch 37° C in the noon and reduce to 30° C at the closing stages, according to AccuWeather.

It is expected to be a very humid day, that could take a toll on players, who do a lot of running or spend most of the time in the middle during the first half. In the opening match, South Africa's Klaassen cut an exhausted figure enroute his century.

Weather Channel also forecasts similar conditions with no chance of rain, but a maximum temperature touching 34° C in the noon, reducing to 31° C at the closing stages. So, weather is unlikely to play spoilsport in the SA vs BAN match in Mumbai.

While there is no rain, there is chance for dew, which could be a factor in the later stages of the second innings in Mumbai, meaning the team chasing may have an extra advantage. But, how is the Mumbai wicket going to play?

Wankhede Stadium pitch report for SA vs BAN World Cup match

Four red soil pitches of the 13 strips at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai have been selected by the ICC for the five World Cup 2023 matches, including the semifinal. The venue has been known to provide some assistance for quicks, but has mostly been batting friendly.

The first World Cup 2023 match was just an example of why the Wankhede Stadium is called a batter's paradise as South Africa posted the second highest total at the venue, where they also hold the record for the highest total, which they scored eight years ago against India.

The average first innings score in the 24 ODIs hosted by the venue is 251. three of the last five matches at the venue have ended in favour of the team chasing, but the team batting first have won when posting 350 plus. South Africa posted a mammoth 438 in 2015 and 399 last week.

In terms of teams chasing and batting first wins, the record is 12-12. Teams will be tempted to chase especially with the dew factor in mind. However, with the pace bowlers expected to find some joy under lights, teams may be tempted to bat first and get runs on the board in the noon heat.
