Warne ready for a comeback

By Staff

Sydney, Oct 8 (UNI) Former Australian legend Shane Warne is ready to wear the famous baggy green cap once again.

According to 'The Australian', Warne is happy with his form on the few occasions that he has bowled recently and is not averse to making a comeback to the international arena if the call comes.

''If the call comes I will consider it,'' Warne said in London yesterday. ''I'm fit enough. I'm probably fitter than I have ever been at the moment.'' Warne's statement comes at a time when the Australian squad is facing a lack of options in the spin bowling department ahead of the four-Test tour of India which starts in Bangalore tomorow.

Australia's inexperienced slow bowlers are up against the world's best players of spin and Warne said his own difficult time on Indian soil had taught him that it took experience in Indian conditions to eventually succeed there.

''I found it tough. I found it difficult and I would like to think that I was one of the better spinners going around,'' he said.

Dismissing suggesstions that the Australian team was in decline despite a below par performance against the Board President's XI in the tour opener, Warne said,''I think we have got a fantastic team at the moment, I don't think we are in decline at all. We just need a spinner to come through.'' Warne denied reports that he had accepted a job as a consultant coach to English county side Hampshire.
