Warne's Mercedes hit by Melbourne tram

By Staff

Melbourne, Apr 11 : Former Australian off-spinner Shane Warne's black Mercedes was hit by a Melbourne tram in which the car's rear panel and tail-light was damaged.

A resident of Armstrong Street heard the accident outside his window and caught the aftermath on film.

"We saw a black car swerving erratically and it almost hit a parked car," said Tim Rose.

"Lo and behold, who stepped out of the car but Shane Warne, much to the shock of me and my wife," he added.

A spokeswoman for Warne said the former cricketer had been involved in an accident where a "tram ran into the back of him."

"Shane was amused that anyone knew about it given that it was a minor accident," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her, as saying.

However, a spokesman for Yarra Trams said trams had right of way on roundabouts.

"The driver has submitted a report but I have no knowledge of the report," the spokesman said.

Channel Nine is believed to have paid 500 dollars for the footage from Rose's camera.
