Watch: Ajinkya Rahane's celebrates in style after hitting hundred for Leicestershire with stunning boundary

By MyKhel Staff

Ajinkya Rahane brought up his maiden hundred for Leicestershire with a stunning square cut against Glamorgan. The India star hung on his back foot and dispatched the ball through point to complete a 179-ball hundred.

This was Rahane's first hundred for Leicestershire, who settled for a draw against Glamorgan. Leicestershire were three down for 74 when Rahane and Australia's Peter Handscomb forged a 183-run partnership off 303 balls. Handscomb came to bat at five after Rahane, and scored unbeaten 139 runs off 253 balls.

Once Rahane saw the ball sail past the boundary rope, he took off his helmet, and raised his bat towards the dressing room and fans. He also thanked the almighty by looking up in the air before punching gloves with his batting partner Handscomb.

Rahane scored 42 runs in the first innings, and was the second-highest run-scorer for his team after Handscomb, who scored 46. The knocks from the two international stars helped Leicestershire post 251, before Glamorgan declared for 550/9 and took a 299-run first innings lead.

36-year-old Rahane has played just two County Championship matches for Leicestershire this season. In his first outing against Gloucestershire, he scored 18 runs across the two innings.

The Mumbai batters last outing for India came back in July 2023 when India visited West Indies. The senior batter was dropped after the series, however he continues his quest to make an India comeback once again.

India are scheduled to play 10 Test matches between September 19 to January 7, and Rahane would be hoping to grab the attention of the selectors through his performances in first-class cricket.

However, a comeback looks highly unlikely. Rahane wasn't picked in any of the four Duleep Trophy squads announced for the first-round matches starting September 5. Most of India regulars, who are in the reckoning for the Test series against Bangladesh from September 19, will play in the first-round matches of Duleep Trophy.

There is already intense competition in the middle-order, and it's highly unlikely that Rahane would be called back ahead of the busy Test season.
