IND vs NZ: 'King Kohli' announcement was done as Virat Kohli walked in to bat at number three on Day 2 of the first Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Following the washed out Day 1, India won the toss on Thursday (October 17) and opted to bat first in overcast conditions in Bengaluru. New Zealand pacers Tim Southee and Matt Henry made life difficult for the Indian openers as Rohit Sharma was clean bowled by the former in the seventh over.

Virat Kohli dismissed for duck in Bengaluru Test

However, the joy of the Virat Kohli fans at the home of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was short lived. The star batter was dismissed for a nine-ball duck by New Zealand pacer William ORourke.

The delivery from William ORourke nipped back in with a good bounce as Kohli got on his toes to defend. However, the ball kissed his gloves before landing into the hands of Glenn Phillips, who picked a brilliant forward-diving catch at leg gully.

The crowd at the Chinnaswamy was stunned as Kohli walked back to the pavilion. Matt Henry dismissed Sarfaraz Khan for a duck in the next over as India were left reeling at 10/3.

Virat Kohli was batting at number three spot for only the seventh time in his Test career. He has scored 97 runs at an average of 16.16 at the position. He walked in to bat at three due to the absence of Shubman Gill due to a neck stiffness.
