London, Jan 5: Former England cricket captain Paul Collingwood said England will need an unorthodox approach if they aim to win the ICC World Cup starting next month. [Bangladesh announce WC squad, Mashrafe Mortaza to lead]

England is set to leave for Australia on Tuesday for a triangular one-day tournament also featuring India before going into the quadrennial tournament.

Collingwood, 38, who played 195 one-days for England and also led the country to lift the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup, said the current team must produce something out-of-the-box in the 50-over format to make a mark.

Collingwood is currently serving as the coach of Scotland and will be in the opposite bench the day England take on Scotland on February 23.

England, who have lost 19 of their last 28 one-day matches, have made the finals of the world cup thrice (1979, 1987 and 1992) but never could lift the title.

Collingwood said the English side will not gain anything by adopting a conservative strategy. It was Collingwood and former coach Andy Flower who had effected drastic changes in England's batting and bowling approach to help the team end up as winners.

England, who lost in the 1992 edition final against Pakistan in Melbourne, will begin their campaign against Australia on February 14.

England are clubbed with Australia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Afghanistan in Pool A in the 2015 World Cup.
