WCL 2025: How Can Pakistan Play India In Semis? What Could Be Possible Outcomes If IND Refuse To Play?- Here's What We Know

WCL 2025: The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been marred by more than just on-field results - off-field tensions between India and Pakistan have created significant uncertainty.

Earlier in the tournament, a high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash was abandoned without a ball being bowled after senior Indian players reportedly refused to take the field in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The boycott received widespread support at home, with growing calls to sever cricketing ties with Pakistan in global events.

WCL 2025

However, in a surprising turn of events, the BCCI has now cleared the path for India to participate in the Asia Cup 2025, where they are placed in the same group as Pakistan. This decision sparked outrage across social media, with fans accusing the board of double standards - supporting a boycott in WCL but greenlighting the Asia Cup fixture.

Now, the big question looms: What happens if India and Pakistan meet again in the WCL semifinals?

The Qualification Scenario

India are currently winless in the WCL 2025, but they still have two matches left - against England and West Indies. Should they win both convincingly, they could climb to fourth place and set up a potential semifinal clash with group-toppers Pakistan. WCL's format pits 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd in the knockouts.

What If India Refuse To Play?

If India finish fourth and are set to play Pakistan - and again decide not to take the field - Pakistan could be awarded a direct berth in the final by virtue of topping the points table.

Shikhar Dhawan has already confirmed he won't play against Pakistan in the knockouts, and it's likely that other senior players may follow suit. While a second-string Indian side could be fielded to fulfill formalities, that option appears increasingly unlikely, especially considering the backlash from the earlier boycott.

Unless there's a sudden change in stance or player availability, the much-anticipated India-Pakistan knockout clash at WCL 2025 may remain a pipe dream - with Pakistan possibly advancing by default. But as of now, we haven't heard from the organisers regarding this, so we just have to wait for official confirmation if such a situation pops up.
