WCL 2025: Will Shahid Afridi Play Final For Pakistan Champions As He Is Included In PAK Squad?

WCL 2025: Pakistan Champions' legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi has ruled himself out of the much-anticipated World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 final against South Africa, set to be played later today at Edgbaston. Despite being named in the final squad, Afridi has confirmed that he will not be taking the field due to medical advice.

Afridi, who has been dealing with persistent fitness issues, hasn't featured in a single game throughout the tournament. Nevertheless, his team has remained dominant, cruising through the group stage unbeaten and securing a direct entry into the final after the semi-final clash against India Champions was forfeited.

The cancellation came in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April, which heightened cross-border tensions between the two nations in May.

Addressing media in Manchester ahead of the final, Afridi expressed disappointment at missing out but emphasized that he had to follow medical advice.
"The doctor has advised me to rest, so I won't be playing the final," Afridi said, as quoted by Pakistan's A-Sports. He added, "My heart wanted to play, especially if that semi-final had happened. Maybe I would've pushed through the pain."

Despite not participating on the field, Afridi has been actively involved behind the scenes, supporting the team with preparations and mentorship.
"I motivate the boys, remind them of their responsibility. I help arrange nets and practice sessions. That's my contribution off the field," he said with a smile.

The former Pakistan captain also praised the team's spirit and unity, noting that each player understands the value of representing their nation.
"We are here only for Pakistan. This green jersey is our pride, and we will give our best effort in the final, Insha'Allah," Afridi affirmed.
"Every senior here is serious about his performance. This isn't a small league. When Pakistan's name is involved, the intensity naturally rises."

While Afridi's absence is undoubtedly a blow to fans, his presence in the dressing room and on the sidelines continues to inspire the squad as they aim for WCL glory.
