Barbados Royals defeated the inaugural champions Trinbago Knight Riders by 4 wickets in WCPL 2024 final to lift their second successive Women's Caribbean Premier League title on Thursday (August 29).
After skipper Hayley Matthews and Aaliyah Alleyne starred with the ball to restrict Trinbago Knight Riders to 93/8 in their allotted 20 overs, Chamari Athapththu player crucial hand with the bat to help Barbados Royals past the target at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Athapaththu's unbeaten 39 off 43 balls along with small contributions from Matthews (13 off 12 balls), Qiana Joseph (14 off 13 balls) and Laura Harris (15 off 6 balls) ensured Royals complete the chase with 5 overs to spare.
Despite setting the modest of targets, Knight Riders marshalled by Deandra Dottin chipped in with wickets, but the job was half done when Matthews and Athapaththu had combined to put on 48 in the powerplay.
Samara Ramnath (2 for 18 in 4 overs), who dismissed Matthews, was the pick of the bowlers for Knight Riders, while Jess Jonassen, Shikha Pandey and Anis Mohamed also claimed a wicket each in the losing cause.
Earlier, put in to bat, Trinbago Knight Riders were put on the back foot as Matthews removed her counterpart and the dangerous Deandra Dottin in the second over the match.
India's Jemimah Rodrigues also fell early, but her compatriot Pandey (28 off 31 balls) fought back alongside Jannillea Glasgow (24 off 31 balls) to share a stand of 43. Aaliyah Alleyne then ended the fighting stand, resulting in a collapse as TBKR fell from 53/2 to 75/8.
For Royals, apart from Matthews (2 for 13 in 4 overs) and Alleyne (4 for 21 in 4 overs), Chinelle Henry also chipped in with a wicket, removing Rodrigues caught and bowled.
