We received damaged trophy from the ICC, says Nimbus

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) The ICC World Cup trophy was received damaged and no further harm was caused to the silverware during its stay in India, Nimbus Sports International clarified today.

''LG Electronics, one of the main sponsors for the World Cup, has not damaged the trophy as certain media reports suggested,'' a release from Nimbus said.

The lower gold ring of the trophy was detached from the wooden base when Nimbus received it from ICC, it added.

Meanwhile the 80,000-pound trophy is said to have been shipped back to England as the ICC does not allow anyone except the official trophy makers to repair or polish the trophy.
