“We Will Be There”: RCB IPL 2026 Matches Confirmed at Chinnaswamy Stadium as Fans Celebrate

The Indian Premier League will return to one of its most iconic venues after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) confirmed that IPL 2026 matches will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The confirmation came on Monday after the KSCA received official government approval following a high-level meeting involving Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar, an expert committee, and representatives from KSCA, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and event partners.

With the clearance now granted, the IPL 2026 opener between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad will take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.

Government approves RCB matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium

The approval follows a detailed review of the stadium's safety measures and infrastructure conducted by an expert committee earlier this month.

The committee inspected the venue on March 13 and presented its findings during a meeting at Vidhana Soudha. According to KSCA, the report outlined the preparedness and compliance measures implemented at the stadium ahead of the upcoming season.

In an official media release, the association said the government had formally approved the conduct of IPL matches at the venue after reviewing the arrangements.

"Based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee and after reviewing the arrangements in detail, the Hon'ble Home Minister has formally accorded approval for the conduct of the upcoming IPL matches at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru," the KSCA statement said.

RCB venue returns after safety concerns

The return of IPL matches to Chinnaswamy comes after months of uncertainty surrounding the venue.

Last year, during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations, a stampede outside the stadium resulted in the tragic loss of 11 lives. Following the incident, questions were raised about crowd management and safety protocols at the venue, and it has not hosted any competitive cricket since then.

When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the initial IPL 2026 schedule earlier this month, Bengaluru was listed as a venue but with a condition. Matches would only be held there if the expert committee approved the stadium's safety arrangements.

That approval has now been granted, clearing the way for IPL cricket to return to the city.

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who recently took over as KSCA President, had earlier promised to restore cricket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the confirmation marks a major step toward that goal.

RCB to play five home matches in Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play five of their seven home matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during IPL 2026.

The remaining two home fixtures will be held in Raipur as part of the league's venue-sharing arrangement for the season.

One of the most anticipated matches at the venue will be the blockbuster clash between RCB and Chennai Super Kings, scheduled for April 5. The stadium is also being considered as a potential venue for one of the IPL 2026 playoff matches as well as the final.

Fan celebrations erupt after announcement

The confirmation that IPL matches will return to Chinnaswamy triggered excitement among RCB supporters, many of whom took to social media to celebrate the decision.

One fan wrote, "Chinnaswamy atmosphere. Arceebee Arceebe. Thank you Venkatesh Prasad for your efforts," praising the KSCA president for helping bring cricket back to the stadium.

Another supporter posted, "Can't wait for the arrival of the King in his own Kingdom on March 28," referring to Virat Kohli's return to his home ground.

Several fans also expressed emotional reactions, celebrating the news with messages such as " 'RCB will be banned'... Finally RCB got clearance to play in Bengaluru. We will be there!"

Another fan shared:"Our home is back."

For Bengaluru supporters, the return of IPL matches to Chinnaswamy represents more than just a sporting event. It marks the revival of one of the most vibrant atmospheres in world cricket, where packed stands, deafening chants of "RCB, RCB," and electric energy have long been a defining feature of IPL nights.
