As England's 'Bazball' backfired and they suffered a 2-wicket defeat in the Ashes 2023, a meme fest of sorts started. 'Cumball' started trending on Twitter as Pat Cummins scored unbeaten 44 off 73 to help Australia in a thriller in the final moments of Day 5.
England were on top and needed just two wickets to win after reducing Australia to 227/8 while defending 281. However, Cummins showed nerves of steel alongside number ten batter Nathan Lyon who stayed unbeaten on 16 off 28 and stitched a match-winning unbeaten 55-run partnership with his captain.

England's decision to declare their first innings on 393/8 with Joe Root going all guns blazing backfired in the final moments of the thrilling Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. In the second innings as well, they continued batting aggressively despite losing two quick wickets. They were bundled out for 273 runs ultimately.
The first innings saw eight England batters score at a strike rate in excess of 70. In the second innings four batters scored at an 80-plus strike rate while four batted at a strike rate in excess of 60.
However, Pat Cummins showed no signs of haste and took his side with a solid Test match batting. Post England's defeat fans have mocked 'Bazball' and given birth to a term 'Cumball'. Have a look.
