West Indian cricketers question appointment of Richard Pybus

West Indies cricketers like Desmond Haynes and Darren Sammy go all out against the appointment of Richard Pybus as High Performance Director

Bengaluru, February 16: Legendary opener Desmond Haynes and all-rounder Darren Sammy slammed West Indies Cricket Board's decision to appoint Richard Pybus as High Performance Director.

Their point of grouse was that Pybus, who left the role of Director of Cricket nearly a year ago, was brought back without even notifying about filling the post.

"Englishman Pybus was appointed director of cricket in November, 2013 and spent three years in the role before being replaced by former Test captain Jimmy Adams in January last year.

"Since then, Pybus was overlooked for vacant head coach positions with the India, Bangladesh and South Africa. It would be great to ask the President (of WICB) about this appointment and when was this position advertised," wrote Haynes in his Facebook page.

Darren Sammy, who led West Indies during Pybus' tenure as director, expressed disbelief at his return on Twitter. "Lies lies lies... Must be fake news," Sammy tweeted.

Later he again he tweeted: "Well I'm still hoping that nightmare is not true #fakenews he's not coming back at CWI."

Pybus did not react to Sammy but he replied to Haynes on Facebook.

"Hi Desmond. Although WICB [CWI] doesn't seem to get much credit for the three World Cups [World T20, Women's World T20 and Under-19 World Cup] won in 2016, they weren't an accident, the U-19 and women were run by the HP program[me]. I wasn't replaced by Jimmy, I'd declined an extension. Regards Richard," Pybus wrote on his FB page.
