Shannon Gabriel, who played 59 Tests for West Indies, announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, August 28. The 36-year-old said that he would continue playing for Trinidad and Tobago, and franchise cricket across the world.
The pacer made his debut back in 2012 in a Test match against England at Lord's. His last outing for West Indies was also in a Test match against India in July 2023. He also played 25 ODIs and two T20I matches. His last ODI outing came in 2019, while he played both his T20I games in 2013.

"During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies," the 36-year-old wrote on his Instagram page. "Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end."
"I would like to express my gratitude to God for the numerous blessings and the opportunities my family and I have received during my time playing for the West Indies," Gabriel wrote in a post shared on his Instagram handle.
"Secondly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Cricket West Indies administrators, coaches, and staff members. Words cannot adequately convey the appreciation I have for your hard work and support over the years. Last but not least, I am grateful to my teammates and all those who have stood by me and supported me along the way. You have made my journey to the top truly special.
"Moving forward, my plan is to continue representing my country [Trinidad and Tobago], club, and franchise teams around the world with the same love and passion I have shown throughout my career."
Shannon Gabriel picked 166 Test wickets including the best bowling figures in an innings of 8/62 against Sri Lanka. He finished his career with six Test five-fers. He also picked 33 ODI and 3 T20I wickets.
Gabriel also courted his share of controversy during his 12-year international career. He was banned from four ODIs in 2019 for using a homophobic slur during a verbal spat with Joe Root in St Lucia.
