West Indies squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Shimron Hetmyer and Shamar Joseph were named in the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 announced on Friday, May 3. However, the likes of opener Kyle Mayers and pacer Oshane Thomas did not find a place.
Shamar Joseph, who made headlines with a sensational Test debut in Australia, hasn't played a T20I match till date. The 24-year-old express pacer is currently part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad in the IPL 2024. Mayers also plays for the same team but hasn't got a single opportunity this season.

Hetmyer has made his way back into the squad. He last represented West Indies in December last year. The southpaw has scored 83 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 184.44 for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2024.
Johnson Charles, Brandon King, and Shai Hope are expected to occupy the top-order spots in the ICC showpiece event which starts from June 2. Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd also feature in the 15-member squad which will be led by Rovman Powell.
Akeal Hossain and Gudakesh Motie have been named as the two specialist spinners. Sunil Narine, who is on fire in the IPL 2024, did not make a return. There were speculations that the veteran off-spinner could make West Indies comeback for the T20 World Cup 2024. Further, the pace unit will be led by vice-captain Alzarri Joseph with the support of Joseph.
The two-time champions are placed in Group C alongside Papua New Guinea (PNG), Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan. West Indies are co-hosting the mega event with the USA.
