West Indies vs Bangladesh: WI clinch ODI series with a match to spare, Jayden Seales, Brandon King star in victory

By MyKhel Staff

West Indies vs Bangladesh: West Indies stormed to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in St. Kitts, securing the ODI series with a game to spare.

This triumph marked their first series win against Bangladesh in a decade, breaking the visitors' long-standing dominance in bilateral contests. Jayden Seales and Brandon King emerged as the heroes of the match, delivering standout performances that anchored the hosts' commanding display.

West Indies vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI

The day began with West Indies' bowlers dictating terms. Seales, continuing his remarkable rise in international cricket, ripped through Bangladesh's batting order with career-best figures of 4 for 22. He struck thrice during the powerplay, removing Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz to leave the visitors reeling. Gudakesh Motie provided able support with 2 for 36, applying further pressure in the middle overs.

Despite a valiant effort from Mahmudullah, whose 62 anchored the innings, and a spirited 92-run eighth-wicket partnership with Tanzim Hasan, Bangladesh could only manage 227 before being bowled out in 45.5 overs. Tanzim's 45, highlighted by six boundaries, showcased his resilience, but Mahmudullah's departure in the penultimate over sealed Bangladesh's fate.

Chasing 228, West Indies made light work of the target, thanks to an explosive start by Brandon King. The opener smashed 82 off just 76 balls, blending finesse with power as he tore into Bangladesh's bowlers. Supported by Evin Lewis, who contributed a brisk 49, King ensured the home side maintained a brisk scoring rate. The pair stitched together a century opening stand, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Bangladeshi comeback.

After Lewis departed, Keacy Carty added 45 runs to further solidify the chase, forming a steady 66-run partnership with King. Although both batters fell in quick succession, captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford finished the game with panache. Rutherford's audacious sixes in the 37th over sealed the deal as the hosts chased down the target in just 36.5 overs.

This series win, following their triumph over England, underlines West Indies' resurgence in ODI cricket. Conversely, Bangladesh's struggles continued, with their lone series victory in the past year highlighting the challenges they face in maintaining consistency.
