What did MS Dhoni say about his ODI retirement?

Sydney, Jan 25: He made a quiet exit from Test cricket. And it could be the same for One Day Internationals too. But when and where nobody knows. When he was asked the question of his ODI retirement, a smiling Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave an interesting reply.

Soon after India won the 5th and final ODI of the series against Australia on Saturday (January 23), Dhoni faced the media. And what was the first question for the captain? Yes it was about his 50-over internationals future.

"For this, file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) first, then I'll answer," this is what the skipper replied when he was asked whether it was his last ODI for India.

This was not the first time on the tour of Australia that Dhoni had mentioned PIL in his reply. When he was asked to review his leadership following the ODI loss, he had said jokingly in Melbourne, "There will be a conflict of interest if I start reviewing my performance. We would have to put a PIL to judge my performance as the skipper."

In December 2014, during Australia tour, Dhoni shocked the cricket world by retiring from Tests in the middle of the series. The message was conveyed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and not the man himself.

"One of India's greatest Test Captains under whose leadership India became the No. 1 team in the Test Rankings MS Dhoni, has decided to retire from Test Cricket citing the strain of playing all formats of Cricket," BCCI had said in a statment on December 30, 2014.

Maybe when Dhoni chooses to call it a day from the shorter format, it could be the same script. For now, his focus will be on the 3 Twenty20 Internationals against Australia starting from tomorrow (January 26) in Adelaide.
