A heated altercation between India head coach Gautam Gambhir and The Oval's head curator Lee Fortis became the talk of the cricketing world on Tuesday, just two days before the fifth and final Test between India and England.
During India's training session at The Oval, Gambhir was seen in an animated conversation with Fortis, visibly upset and pointing fingers. The confrontation appeared to center around the conditions of the practice pitches, with Gambhir reportedly yelling, "You don't tell us what we need to do."

While the exact reason for the clash remains uncertain, Fortis attempted to downplay the incident when approached by the media. "There's no side of the story. You'll have to ask him that," he said, evading repeated questions about what triggered the former Indian opener's reaction as per TOI. When asked if Gambhir was aggressive during the morning exchanges, Fortis quipped, "You saw what he was like this morning. He's a bit touchy!"
Despite the uncomfortable episode, Fortis maintained that he had nothing to hide. "I'm okay. We've got nothing to hide here," he added, indicating he did not intend to escalate the situation further.
The confrontation required Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak to step in and calm things down. Kotak was seen escorting Fortis away for a one-on-one discussion at the edge of the practice area, after which both parties resumed their responsibilities without further conflict. Gambhir returned to oversee the net session, appearing composed.
India, currently trailing 2-1 in the five-match series, arrived in London following a resilient draw at Old Trafford in Manchester. The team is keen to level the series in the final Test starting Thursday at The Oval.
