The World Championship of Legends 2025 has been rocked by a major development-India has officially refused to play their semifinal match against Pakistan, citing national security concerns and public sentiment in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
This firm stance follows India's military response, codenamed Operation Sindoor, which was launched in retaliation to the attack. In a rare but resolute move, the Indian cricket team, led by senior players Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, and Irfan Pathan, has collectively decided not to take the field against Pakistan. The entire squad has voiced unanimous support for the boycott, reinforcing a message that cricket cannot be isolated from matters of national integrity.

This isn't the first time during the tournament that India has taken such a step-the side had previously forfeited their group-stage match against Pakistan under similar circumstances. With a semifinal spot secured after thrashing the West Indies Champions in just 13.2 overs, the team has once again prioritized principle over play.
Backing the decision, one of the tournament's main sponsors, EaseMyTrip, also withdrew its association with the match. Co-founder Nishant Pitti posted on social media platform X:
"We stand with India. We cannot support any event that attempts to normalise relations with a country that promotes terrorism. Terror and cricket cannot go hand in hand. Nation first, business later. Always."
The bold decision has sparked widespread debate across the cricketing world, drawing both admiration and criticism. What was expected to be a high-octane rivalry at Edgbaston has now become a flashpoint for broader political tensions.
India refusing to play against Pakistan means there won't be any semifinal on Thursday. With that, Pakistan has advanced to the final of the WCL 2025. Australia and South Africa will take on each other in the 2nd semifinal, and the winner of the match will advance to the final.
