Cricket fans and moviegoers alike can look forward to December 2026, as that's when the much-anticipated biopic on Sourav Ganguly is set to hit theatres.
The film, which will feature Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, will begin shooting in January 2026, according to the former India captain himself.

In a recent interaction with PTI, Ganguly shared an update on the film's progress, stating, "It's going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing and scripting takes a lot of time. And shooting doesn't take that much time. It's about 3 months and then the post-production takes time."
Spanning an illustrious cricket career from 1992 to 2008, Ganguly amassed 18,575 international runs and 38 centuries, becoming one of India's most respected and influential cricket captains. His fearless leadership and ability to transform Indian cricket into a competitive force on foreign soil earned him legendary status.
While many speculated that Ganguly might play himself in the film, he has dismissed the idea, placing full faith in Rajkummar Rao's abilities. "I think the right person is doing it... I'll help him with everything," said Ganguly.
Rajkummar Rao, known for his diverse and powerful performances in films like Shahid, Trapped, Newton, and Stree, is expected to bring depth and authenticity to his portrayal of Ganguly. The actor's involvement has already sparked excitement, with fans eagerly awaiting how he captures the grit and grace of the iconic left-hander on screen.
Although the film's title and director are yet to be announced, the buzz surrounding the biopic continues to build, especially with Ganguly himself actively involved in its development.
The upcoming movie promises not just to chronicle the cricketing highs and lows of one of India's most successful captains, but also to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the man who reshaped Indian cricket culture. As 2026 approaches, the excitement for this cinematic tribute to "Dada" is only set to grow.
