Which Major Tournaments India may play during Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach?

A new era of Indian cricket is set to commence as Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach.

The former India batter took over the reins from Rahul Dravid and is expected to hone his skills as the mentor and coach for the Indian cricket team.

Gautam Gambhir is set to take charge of the team from the upcoming Sri Lanka series, which starts on July 27. Although Indian cricket is just fresh from T20 World Cup victory, the overall record for the team in the last decade or so hasn't been that good.

When it comes to ICC tournaments, India has failed in five finals between the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup 2024 victories. Although India improved significantly in away Test assignments, the ICC drought only had its end a couple of weeks ago.

With Gautam Gambhir coming at the helm, the focus will be to stamp the authority on the ICC tournaments on a regular basis. India is set to play numerous bilateral and continental tournaments, but there will be major ICC tournaments during Gambhir's tenure.

How Many ICC Tournaments India can play during Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach?

Although no such tenure has been officially mentioned, Gautam Gambhir is likely to be at the helm at least for the next three years, as that must be the principle focus for the team.

Test Cricket

2023-25 World Test Championship and 2025-27 World Test Championship

After consecutive final defeats, India's aim will be to get their inaugural WTC title. In the current cycle, India is in the pole position and may qualify for the Final for the third time in a row. But they will have to take lessons from the last two defeats and turn the tables.

T20 Cricket

T20 World Cup 2026

After the joyous campaign this year, India will co-host the T20 World Cup in 2026 with Sri Lanka. The expectations will be high again and after the 2023 ODI World Cup heartbreak, Gautam Gambhir and his troops will be hoping for redemption on home soil and a perfect title defence.
