BCCI has announced Gautam Gambhir as the next India head coach on Tuesday (July 9).
The Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik unanimously recommended Gautam Gambhir to take over the role from Rahul Dravid.

"The BCCI welcomes Gautam Gambhir in his role with Team India. The former Indian opener brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game. Known for his exceptional batting prowess and strategic acumen, Gambhir has been a pivotal figure in Indian cricket," a BCCI statement wrote.
Gautam Gambhir has been a name which has hovered around as the potential head coach. It was only academic about the announcement, which had its official status through BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Gambhir will be taking over the duties from the Sri Lanka series which starts on July 27. The 42-year-old has also been given the freedom to choose his own coaching staff. During Dravid's tenure, Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), T. Dilip (Fielding Coach) and Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) were the assistants who have also left after their tenure.
As the speculation build on Gambhir's potential recruitments, here are three names who can join the southpaw in the Indian team.
Abhishek Nayar is a name which has been reverberating for some time. Gambhir and Nayar have a superb bond which intensified further during the IPL 2024 at Kolkata Knight Riders. Reports have said that Gambhir and Nayar have already made a verbal agreement and the former Mumbai player may join as an assistant in the Indian team. Nayar has also been a mentor for Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and is regarded highly among the youngsters. Hence he is someone who is leading the race to join as a coaching staff.
Gambhir has also put forward the name of R Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach for the Indian team. The former India pacer was part of the KKR squad during Gambhir's captaincy days and the duo form a strong bond. Vinay Kumar is currently leading the race but BCCI is likely to invite applicants for the post.
The renowned South African player can be brought in as a fielding coach for the Indian team by Gautam Gambhir. The duo worked in the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants and given his quality and versatility as a player, the Indian team can hugely benefit from his presence.
Vijay Dahiya is another trusted personnel in Gambhir's notebook. The former India wicketkeeper was the assistant coach of KKR for a long time and also was part of the Lucknow Super Giants during Gambhir's days as a mentor. Hence Gambhir can also bring him as a backroom staff.
