Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a significant setback ahead of the IPL 2026 season, with star pacer Harshit Rana ruled out due to injury.
The 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler sustained a knee injury during India's T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai in February.

The injury forced him to miss the entire World Cup, where he was replaced by Mohammed Siraj, and India went on to lift the trophy. Rana underwent knee surgery on February 9 in Mumbai, performed by renowned surgeon Dinshaw Pardiwalla at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Despite the procedure, medical assessments indicate he will not recover in time for the IPL, which begins later in March 2026. He is now set to focus on rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Rana has been a key asset for KKR, playing a pivotal role in their 2024 IPL title win with 19 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 20.15 and an economy of 9.08. Across his IPL career with the franchise, he has claimed 40 wickets in 34 games.
His absence leaves a gaping hole in KKR's pace department, especially amid reports of other injury concerns in the bowling unit. The Knight Riders also recently replaced Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman with Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani.
KKR are yet to finalize a replacement, with discussions around options like Akash Deep, Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, or Kartik Tyagi to step up. Here are three players who can replace Harshit Rana at the KKR for the IPL 2026 season-
Simarjeet Singh went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction. The Delhi pacer had a decent season for Chennai Super Kins in IPL 2024 but was underwhelming for SRH last year. He has 11 wickets in 14 IPL matches and the 28-year-old can be a decent option for the Knight Riders.
Akash Madhwal is another player KKR can eye for as Harshit Rana's replacement. The Uttarakhand pacer has been part of MI and RR in the past and has 23 wickets in 17 IPL matches. As Harshit Rana's replacement, Madhwal can be a handy option. The 32-year-old played four matches for the Royals last year, picking up 4 wickets, including a three-fer against Chennai Super Kings.
Although Navdeep Saini hasn't played in the IPL in last two seasons, the 33-year-old India pacer can be an option for the Knight Riders. He has played 32 matches and has 23 wickets to his name. The Delhi pacer has also played across formats for India and has 23 international wickets.
