Agni Dev Chopra has set a new Ranji Trophy record of five centuries in his maiden season as the left-handed batter has been on a ton-scoring spree for Mizoram since his debut. Agni is the son of famous Bollywood filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
In his maiden first-class innings, Agni hammered 166 runs off 179 balls against Sikkim. In the innings, no other batsman scored more than 20 runs and Mizoram was eliminated with 214 runs in the Ranji Trophy's plate division.

Before Sikkim won, Agni hit 92 runs in the second innings as well. In the following four games, he scored 164 and 15 against Nagaland, 114 and 10 against Arunachal Pradesh, and 105 and 101 against Meghalaya.
The son of prominent Bollywood filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and journalist Anupama Chopra, Agni Dev Chopra was born on November 4, 1998. The 25-year-old cricket began his cricket career in Mumbai, where he participated in minor teams. After that, Agni moved to Mizoram, where he eventually made his national debut for the state in the northeast.
Agni Chopra also debuted in Twenty20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this season and was the only batter from Mizoram to score more than 200 runs during the competition. In seven games, the left-hander struck out 234 batters at a strike percentage of 150.96 (two fifties).
Speaking to PTI in an interview, Agni revealed why he opted for a career in cricket and not following his father's footsteps.
"So I have been asked this question from childhood that will you go into movies but I never thought I would ever be in movies. I never thought that, oh, I should get in because my dad makes movies and it will be an easy avenue for me," Agni said. "I was never interested in movies. I mean I love watching movies and have a great time but it was never my passion."
