Darshan Nalkande made his first appearance in IPL 2023 in a crucial encounter as his side Gujarat Titans faced Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (May 23).
Darshan Nalkande made the news during the game for all the wrong reasons as the pacer show his dismissal of in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad cancelled out early in the powerplay as the TV umpire soon declared it a no-ball. The right-arm fast bowler went on to bowl a costly spell of 1/44 in four overs while taking the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane.
Earlier during the toss, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya revealed that Darshan Nalkande is the only new inclusion in the match for the defending champions in place of Yash Thakur as a like-for-like replacement.
The game, however, wasn't Darshan Nalkande's maiden appearance in the IPL as the bowler played two games for Gujarat Titans last season while taking two wickets in the game. The 24-year-old bowler's best bowling spell last season was 2/37, which came against Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium as the Titans successfully defended 191.
As far as his domestic career is concerned, Darshan Nalkande is an uncapped Indian player, who plays for the Vidarbha cricket team and has represented the India U-19 cricket team. He is a right-arm fast bowler, who is known for generating good pace.
The pacer first made news during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 season when he took four wickets in four balls against Karnataka in the last over of the innings. Despite his valiant effort, Vidarbha lost the game by four runs. His first association with IPL came in 2019 when Punjab Kings scouted him into the team but didn't hand him a debut cap.
Speaking of his birth details, Darshan Nalkande was born on October 4, 1998, in Mahrashtra's Wardha to Girish and Sapna Nalkande. His mother is a lawyer by profession while Darshan is the youngest of his two siblings (an elder brother and a sister). Darshan graduated from Dr. Ambedkar College in Nagpur and was scouted by his coach while playing at a summer camp at Akola Cricket Club.
