Who is Harsh Dubey? Vidarbha bowler with new Ranji Trophy Record, Mentored by Ravichandran Ashwin

Harsh Dubey, the golden jewel of Vidarbha, has etched his name in the history books with a stellar record in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season.

Vidarbha became the Ranji Trophy champions beating Kerala in the Final and Dubey has been named as the player of the tournament for his amazing bowling milestone.

Who is Harsh Dubey?

Harsh Dubey was born on July 23, 2002, in Pune, Maharashtra, is a prominent Indian cricketer who has rapidly ascended the ranks in domestic cricket.

A left-arm spin all-rounder, Dubey represents Vidarbha in various domestic tournaments. He made his List A debut on February 28, 2021, during the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and his T20 debut in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season marked a significant milestone in Dubey's career. In his first full season, he emerged as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 69 wickets and surpassing the previous record of 68 wickets held by Bihar's Ashutosh Aman from the 2018-19 season.

In the quarter-final against Tamil Nadu, he scored half-centuries in both innings and took four wickets, leading his team to a 198-run victory. In the final against Kerala, Dubey's three-wicket haul in the first innings was crucial in securing a first-innings lead, setting the foundation for Vidarbha's championship win.

Over the past four years, the 22-year-old has honed his skills in Chennai's league cricket, playing for the Mylapore Recreational Club under the mentorship of Indian off-spinner R Ashwin.

Dubey was ecstatic after receiving his player of the season award in the Ranji final. The Pune-born started as a batter but has transformed himself to a bowling all-rounder. Speaking after the final, Dubey said his dream is India but he wants to take things slowly.

"I want to represent India in future, but I don't want to complicate too much. I will take some rest and get back to preparations before the next season starts," Dubey said.

"I worked on my skills and fitness coming into this season. Got the result throughout the tournament due to those efforts during off-season. I took one game at a time, wanted to bowl in the right areas. Tried to be patient," he added.
