West Indies cricket embraced a historical moment in the 1st T20I against Pakistan as they handed youngster Jewel Andrew a debut in international cricket.

With that, Andrew has become the youngest player ever to debut for the West Indies in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Who is Jewel Andrew?

Jewel Andrew is a highly promising Antiguan cricketer. Born on December 7, 2006, Andrew's rise through the ranks of Caribbean and international cricket has been rapid and notable, marking him as one of the brightest young talents in the region.

Andrew's cricketing journey began at a young age in a family passionate about sports, with his early development shaped by frequent participation in local matches and tournaments. His technical prowess as a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, along with advanced footwork, He plays domestic for the Leeward Islands and for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, quickly gaining attention for his performances.

His international experience includes starring for the West Indies Under-19 team, most notably at the 2024 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, where he scored a remarkable 130 runs from 96 balls in the opening match against the hosts, South Africa. Consistent success at the youth level culminated in his selection for the senior West Indies squad. He first broke the record for the youngest West Indies ODI debutant in October 2024, and within a year, repeated the feat by becoming the youngest West Indies T20I debutant.

Andrew has made his T20I debut at the age of 18 years 236 days and has thus become the youngest T20I debutant for West Indies. He also scored 35 runs off 33 deliveries on debut, hitting 1 four and 3 sixes in the process.

In franchise cricket, Andrew made headlines with his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) debut for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in 2024, where he became both the youngest-ever CPL player and the second-youngest to score a fifty in a major T20 league, making 50 not out from 30 balls on debut.
