Who is Shree Charani?

Nallapureddy Shree Charani, born on August 4, 2004, in Erramalle village, Veerapunayuni Palli mandal, YSR-Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, is a rising Indian cricketer.

At 20, she became the first woman from her district to represent India's women's cricket team, a landmark achievement. Raised in a modest family, her father, Chandrasekhar Reddy, works as a minor employee at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project. Initially encouraged to pursue badminton in class six, Charani also played kho-kho but gravitated toward cricket, inspired by Smriti Mandhana and Yuvraj Singh. Her uncle, Kishore Kumar Reddy, played a pivotal role in supporting her early training.

Early Career and Domestic Success

Charani's cricket journey began in school, where she excelled in age-group tournaments. She progressed to represent Andhra in domestic competitions and played for India's Under-19 teams, showcasing her skills as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler and left-handed batter. In the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction, she attracted intense bidding, ultimately joining Delhi Capitals for ₹55 lakh.

Her WPL debut on March 1, 2025, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was sensational, taking two wickets (Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh) in one over, finishing with 2/18 in a nine-wicket victory. She also played in the WPL final against Mumbai Indians, ending with two wickets at an average of 17.75. Domestically, she shone in the Senior Women's Multi-day Challenger Trophy in March 2025, claiming a five-wicket haul against India B and finishing with nine wickets in three matches.

International Debut and T20I Performance

Charani's domestic performances earned her a call-up to India's senior team for the ODI Tri-Series against Sri Lanka and South Africa in April 2025. She debuted in ODIs on April 27 against Sri Lanka, taking six wickets in five matches at an average of 43.16. In May 2025, she was selected for India's ODI and T20I squads for the England tour. Her T20I debut came in this match, where she received her cap from Sneh Rana.

She idolizes former India player Yuvraj Singh and wants to represent India as an all-rounder in the World Cup in coming years.
