Who Will Be The New T20I Captain Of India? BCCI Shares Major Update On Suryakumar Yadav Future
In a major shakeup to the Indian national team setup, selectors are likely to relieve Suryakumar Yadav from India's T20I captaincy duties when they pick the squad next for the national team fixtures after IPL 2026. According to a report from The Times of India, the decision makers have run out of breath with the right-hander's lean patch continuing with the bat.
Naturally, in an attempt to inject some freshness into the team, the team is considering bringing Shreyas Iyer into the captaincy role. Iyer is expected to lead the side in the upcoming cycle, which starts with 2 T20Is in Ireland, followed by 5 T20I matches in England.

The men in blue are starting a packed T20I calendar into the buildup to the World Cup 2028 and LA Olympics in the same year, where cricket will be reintroduced after over a century.

As things stand currently in the internal camp, Surya's days as India's captain seem to be numbered. The larger question remains whether Suryakumar Yadav remains in the scheme of things as a batter or is completely removed from the setup. While the right-hander has expressed his desire to lead the men in blue, the selectors are clearly not convinced by his recent assignments.
