Rohit Sharma's sudden announcement of retirement has left a huge void in the Test setup of the Indian cricket team.

Rohit announced his decision to retire from the Red Ball format on Wednesday. There were reports that he may be removed from Test captaincy for the England tour, and soon after, the 38-year-old confirmed that he will hang up his boots from the five-day format.

"Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format," Rohit announced on Instagram.

Amid Rohit's departure, the baton of Test cricket leadership will be passed on a new player. Although team India have a number of star players in their ranks, BCCI may put the responsibility on one of these five players.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah stands out as a leading candidate for the Test captaincy. Renowned for his exceptional bowling prowess and strategic mindset, Bumrah has previously captained India in Tests, notably leading the team in the 2022 Edgbaston Test.
