In yesterday's ICC World Cup 2023 match, Pakistan took on South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in a crucial match.
The Pakistan team were under pressure after losing three matches in a row, while South Africa were cruising with four wins after five matches. It was a massive match for the Pakistanis as a defeat would have meant exit from the competition.

And South Africa overcame the Pakistan challenge by just a wicket in the thrilling encounter.
Pakistan scored 270 runs after opting to bat first in Chennai. It was a moderate batting performance from them as Babar Azam (50) and Saud Shakeel (52) scored half-centuries. Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz played two decent cameos in the end to propel their score past the 250 mark. South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 4 wickets with the ball.
South Africa made a steady start with Quinton de Kock and captain Temba Bavuma, but lost both openers within the first ten overs. Despite a fantastic scoring rate, they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Usama Mir, the first-ever concussion substitute in World Cups picked up 2 wickets as the Proteas stumbled during middle overs.
Aiden Markram and David Miller added 70 runs for the 5th wicket and the Proteas were cruising, but Miller's wicket changed the complexion of the match. Markram departed with the South Africans needing just 20 runs to win and things became a cliffhanger from there. Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj had the task to take their team over the line, and the tail-enders took them to a nerve-wracking victory by just a solitary wicket.
