Who Won Yesterday's IPL 2025 Eliminator? GT vs MI on May 30: In a thrilling knockout clash under the gleaming lights of the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mumbai Indians showcased their pedigree as five-time champions by eliminating Gujarat Titans from IPL 2025 with a commanding 20-run win.
The Eliminator on May 30 was a high-octane affair, brimming with explosive stroke-play, tactical brilliance, and a flurry of wickets – all culminating in MI marching into the Qualifier 2 with confidence and flair.

Rohit Sharma, the seasoned campaigner and former MI skipper, turned back the clock with a vintage knock, powering his side with a flamboyant 81 off just 50 deliveries. Backed by crisp cameos from Jonny Bairstow and Tilak Varma, Mumbai Indians posted a formidable 228/5. Gujarat Titans, despite a valiant chase led by the elegant Sai Sudharsan and the versatile Washington Sundar, fell short, closing at 208/6. The result sees MI take one step closer to the coveted trophy while Gujarat’s rollercoaster campaign ends in heartbreak.
The MI innings was set alight by Rohit Sharma’s poetic strokeplay. After Gujarat’s captain Shubman Gill inserted them in to bat, MI’s new-look opening combo of Rohit and Jonny Bairstow wasted no time. Bairstow, despite playing his first match of the season, belted 47 off 22 balls, taking GT’s bowlers to the cleaners with brutal precision.
Rohit, however, was the linchpin. Timing the ball sweetly and exploiting gaps with finesse, he built his innings smartly before exploding in the death overs. Despite being handed a couple of lifelines in the field, he didn’t flinch, turning the tide firmly in MI’s favour. “Somewhere down the line you got to be lucky and today was that day for me,” he said post-match.
Suryakumar Yadav added a brisk 33, while Tilak Varma blazed away with a 25 off just 11 balls, earning him the Curvv Super Striker of the Match award with a blistering strike rate of 227. Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir chipped in during the death overs as MI closed their innings at 228/5.
Chasing 229 was never going to be easy, but Sai Sudharsan made a gallant effort with an elegant 80 off 49 balls, laced with 10 sweetly timed boundaries and a six. Despite losing captain Shubman Gill early to a peach from Trent Boult, Sudharsan and Washington Sundar steadied the ship and accelerated around the halfway mark.
Sundar, batting at No. 4, impressed with a flamboyant 48 off 24 balls, keeping the chase alive. However, crucial wickets at key junctures – including Sudharsan’s dismissal in the 16th over and Rutherford’s in the 18th – stalled GT’s momentum.
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan tried to swing the match back in GT’s favour, but the ever-reliable Bumrah delivered yet again, finishing with 2/27 and a staggering 11 dot balls, earning him the honour of Most Dot Balls in the match.
Hardik Pandya (MI): “The way Jonny batted and started... for him to make his debut for us, it’s a special franchise. The way Ro batted, it was beautiful. We held our nerves. Jassi being Jassi. Ashwani... everyone chipped in well. It’s very simple – whenever you think the game is going away, just bring in Bumrah. It’s like Mumbai housing prices – he’s that expensive.”
Shubman Gill (GT): “Brilliant game of cricket, we were right in it. Definitely not easy when we drop 3 sitters. Message was simple – just play the game you want to play. Because of the dew, the wicket did become little easier for us. 210 would've been par.”
Rohit Sharma (MI): “Good day for us as a team. Really proud of a complete team effort. I had to make the most of the luck. I am glad I could do that. It was going to be challenging with the dew. The bowlers held their nerves really well. Jonny... never looked like he was playing the first game.”
The defining moment of the match arguably came in the 18th over of the MI innings. With Rohit set and looking to tee off, Gujarat dropped a sitter – his third reprieve of the innings. Rohit capitalised fully, smashing two more boundaries in the same over. That over added 17 runs and took MI past 200, turning the momentum irreversibly in their favour. “I got lucky as those catches were dropped. But even after that you got to play.”
Richard Gleeson might not have set the field ablaze, but his 3.3 overs included crucial wickets and dot deliveries at crunch moments. Especially his dismissal of the well-set Sai Sudharsan in the 16th over stymied GT’s hopes. Gleeson’s intelligent variations and calmness under pressure made him MI’s quiet match-winner.
