Who Won Yesterday’s IPL Match 52: The Indian Premier League 2025 delivered yet another pulsating contest as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged past Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a razor-thin margin of 2 runs in Match 52 of the season at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
On a balmy Saturday evening, the crowd witnessed a masterclass in power-hitting and nerve-wracking death overs, eventually culminating in Romario Shepherd’s heroics earning RCB a much-needed win in front of their home fans.

Put into bat after Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl, RCB put up a towering total of 213/5 in 20 overs, thanks largely to the explosive cameo from Romario Shepherd, who smacked an unbeaten 53 off just 14 balls at a mind-boggling strike rate of 378.57.
In response, CSK fought valiantly, with Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja leading the charge, but ultimately fell heartbreakingly short, ending their innings at 211/5. With this win, the Rajat Patidar-led side kept their playoff hopes alive while dealing a serious blow to CSK’s aspirations.
Captains:
RCB's innings was anchored by early stability and finished with fireworks. Jacob Bethell (55 off 33) and Virat Kohli (62 off 33) laid the platform with a solid 97-run opening stand, attacking in the Powerplay and capitalising on anything loose. Kohli's trademark cover drives and wristy flicks enthralled the Bengaluru crowd, while Bethell punished the bowlers square of the wicket.
However, it was Romario Shepherd's death overs carnage that turned the innings on its head. Walking in at No. 7, Shepherd launched an all-out assault with 6 sixes, including three in a row off Pathirana, swinging the momentum dramatically. He was aptly rewarded as both the Curvv Super Striker of the Match and Angel One Most Sixes Award winner.
Chasing 214, CSK began brightly with young Ayush Mhatre dazzling the crowd with a glorious 94 off 48 balls, peppered with 9 fours and 5 sixes. The left-hander looked well set to take CSK over the line, but his wicket at 172 proved to be the turning point of the game. RCB's Krunal Pandya dismissed Shaik Rasheed, while Lungi Ngidi struck crucially, including the key wickets of Mhatre and Sam Curran.
Veteran Ravindra Jadeja kept the chase alive with a blazing 77 off 45*, showcasing his all-round finesse, but lacked support towards the end. MS Dhoni, despite all the nostalgia and expectation, fell lbw to Yash Dayal for 12, dashing CSK's hopes of a fairytale finish.

The match decisively swung RCB’s way with the dismissal of Ayush Mhatre in the 17th over. The left-hander had been dominating the bowling and had stitched a dangerous partnership with Jadeja. But a miscued shot off Ngidi saw him caught by Krunal Pandya, bringing silence to the yellow corner and handing RCB a lifeline they clutched onto with both hands.
While Shepherd stole headlines, Lungi Ngidi’s spell was vital in defending the total. He broke the back of CSK’s chase by claiming the big scalps of Curran, Mhatre and Brevis. His figures of 4-0-30-3 reflect the impact he had in crucial overs and earned him quiet praise despite the flashier performances around him.

RCB’s morale-boosting win over CSK, powered by a vintage Kohli innings and a Shepherd hurricane, has not only revived their campaign but has also brought alive the playoff race. As for CSK, they will rue missed chances and the failure to close out a chase that was almost theirs.
