In yesterday's World Cup 2023 match, India defeated Australia by six wickets after being reduced to two for three runs in two overs in their 200-run chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
After opting to bat first on Sunday, October 8, Australia could post just 199 runs on the boards in 49.3 overs. A 69-run partnership for the second wicket between David Warner and Steve Smith was the only highlight of the Australia innings. Warner and Smith scored 41 and 46 runs respectively.

Ravindra Jadeja ran through the Australian middle-order and registered match figures of 3/28 in 10 overs, while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was also on top of his game, picking two wickets for just 35 runs in 10 overs.
In reply, India lost three wickets for just two runs in the first two overs. Mitchell starc dismissed Ishan Kishan in the first over before Josh Hazlewood sent Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer packing without allowing them to open their accounts.
Virat Kohli's wicket was also on offer but he was dropped for 12 runs by Mitchell starc. The batting maestro made Australia pay for the mistake by joining forces with KL Rahul to forge a 165-run partnership with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. He missed on his 48th hundred after getting out on 85 off 116, but Rahul stayed till the end to complete the job with an 'unintentional' six on the second ball of the 42nd over.
Rahul was looking to chip the ball over extra cover for a four and create an opportunity for him to hit a hundred. However, the perfect timing behind the shot saw the ball sail over the boundary rope for a six. He remained unbeaten on 97 off 115. Hardik Pandya scored 11 not out runs off eight balls.
Scores: Australia: 199 all-out in 49.3 overs (Steve Smith 46, David Warner 41; Ravindra Jadeja 3/28). India: 201/4 in 41.2 overs ( KL Rahul 97*, Virat Kohli 85; Josh Hazlewood 3/38).
